a period marked by bold innovation, and tinc-
tured with a spirit of infidelity, it is certainly incumbent
on every member of, or well wisher to the church of
God, to make a vigorous exertion for the promulgation
of that Gospel on which the Christian Religion is hap-
pily founded, and which demands our utmost reverence,
as the only true guide to eternal life.

Impressed with this idea, and anxious to render an important service to the rising generation, whose tender minds, and expanding faculties, require the most delicate and unremitting attention, to preserve them from the contagion of vice, I have endeavoured to allure them to the study of the Scriptures,, by a brief but connected view of the Sacred History; which, I trust, may not only excite their curiosity, but enlighten their understandings, and influence their conduct.
