in this Bible you will ever find your best friend. The great Problem of man, as seen in the History of the race and the life of each individual, is, as I said before, to perfect his finite nature under the Infinite, to reconcile free-will with Providence, to make man and God at-one: in this Book, and here alone, the problem is solved;Jesus the Anointed, the Perfect Finite and Infinite united, the pure Free-Will identical with the Father's Will, he, in his single person, represented the whole civilization of the past, and all that we can dream of in the future; -he, apart from the influence of his death, made, while living, the great Atonement that sages and prophets had looked for in vain, himself in every word, in every act the living prophecy of man's high destiny. Take these gospels, my friends, and go on, fearing nothing. You may see little come of your labors, but remember that Jesus died upon the Cross, deserted by all but one disciple and a few women; and yet by that very Cross he won the victory. If you would be His followers, be prepared to take up each his cross, and follow Him :

"Art is long, and Time is fleeting:
And our hearts, though stout and brave,
Still, like muffled drums, are beating
Funeral marches to the grave.

Let us, then, be up and doing,
With a heart for any fate,
Still achieving, still pursuing,
Learn to labor, and to wait."
