But be ye Doers of the Word, and not Hearers only, deceiving your own felves. For if any be a Hearer of the Word, and not a Doer, he is like to a Man bebolding his natural Face in a Glass: For he beholdeth himself, and goeth bis Way, and firaitway forgetteth what manner of Man he was. But whofo looketh into the perfect Law of Liberty, and continueth therein, be being not a forgetful Hearer, but a Doer of the Word, this Man shall be blessed in his Deed. Luke vi. 47, 48. Whosoever cometh to me, and heareth my Sayings, and doth them, I will shew you to whom he is like. He is like a Man which built an House, and digged deep, and laid the Foundation on a Rock: and when the Flood arose, the Stream beat vehemently upon that House, and could not shake it : for it was founded upon a Rock. Pf. i. 1, 2. Bleffed is the Man that walketh not in the Counfel of the Ungodly, nor standeth in the Way of Sinners, nor fitteth in the Seat of the Scornful. But bis Delight is in the Law of the Lord, and in his Law doth he meditate Day and Night. Pf. xix. 8, 10, 11. The Statutes of the Lord are right, rejoicing the Heart: the Commandment of the Lord is pure, enlightening the Eyes. More to be defired are they than Gold, yea than much fine Gold: fweeter alfo than Honey, and the Honey-comb. Moreover, by them is thy Servant warned, and in keeping of them there is great Reward. Pf. cxix. 9. Wherewithal shall a young Man cleanse his Way? by taking Heed thereto according to thy Word. 12. Bleffed art thou, O Lord: teach me thy Statutes. 49. Remember thy Word unto thy Servant, upon which thou baft caused me to hope. 73. Thy Hands have made me, and fashioned me, give me Understanding that I may learn thy Commandments. 89. For ever, O Lord, thy Word is fettled in Heaven. 96. I have seen an End of all Perfections; but thy Commandment is exceeding Broad. 105. Thy Word is a Lamp unto my Feet, and a Light unto my Path. 116. Uphold mè according to thy Word, and let me not be ahamed of my Hope. 130. The Entrance of thy Words giveth Light: it giveth Understanding unto the Simple. 133. Order 133. Order my Steps in thy Word, and let not Iniquity have Dominion over me. 155. Salvation is far from the Wicked: for they seek not thy Statutes. 165. Great Peace have they which love thy Law, and nothing shall offend them. Rom. xvi. 25, 26, 27. Now to him that is of Power to ftablish you according to my Gospel, and the Preaching of Jesus Christ according to the Revelation of the Mystery which was kept Secret fince the World began. But now is made manifest, and by the Scriptures of the Prophets, according to the Commandment of the everlasting God, made known to all Nations for the Obedience of Faith. To God only wife, be Glory through Jesus Christ for ever. Amen. B The COLLECT. Leffed Lord, who hast caused all Holy Scriptures to be written for our Learning; Grant that we may in such wise hear them, read, mark, learn, and inwardly digest them; that by Patience and Comfort of thy holy Word, we may embrace, and ever hold fast the blessed Hope of everlafting Life, which thou hast given us in our Saviour Jefus Christ. Amen. N (1) AN ABSTRACT OF THЕ BOOKS OF MOSES The First Period: Being the HISTORY of the WORLD, from the Creation of Heaven and Earth to the Flood, containing about the Space of 1656 Years. John i. I In the BEGINNING was the WORD, and the WORD was with GOD, and the WORD was GOD. 2 The fame was in the BEGINNING with GOD. 3 All things were made by HIM, and without him was not any thing made that was made. Hebr. i. I GOD, who at sundry Times and in divers Manners spake in time paft unto the Fathers by the Prophets, 2 Hath in these last Days spoken unto us by his Son, whom he hath appointed Heir of all Things, by whom also he made the WORLD. 3 Who being the BRIGHTNESS of his GLORY, and the express IMAGE Of his Person, and upholding all Things by the Word of his Power, when he B had had by himself purged our Sins, sat down on the Right hand of the MAJESTY on high. ro And thou, LORD, in the BEGINNING haft laid the Foundation of the Earth; and the Heavens are the Works of thine Hands. II They shall perish, but thou remainest: And they all shall wax old as doth a Garment. 12 And as a Vesture shalt thou fold them up, and they shall be changed; but thou art the fame, and thy Years shall not fail. Prov. viii. 22 The LORD poffefsed me in the BEGINNING of his Way, before his Works of old. 23 I was set up from EVERLASTING, from the BEGINNING, or ever the EARTH was. 24 When there were no Depths, I was brought forth; when there were no Fountains abounding with Water. 25 Before the Mountains were fettled; before the Hills was I brought forth. 26 While as yet he had not made the EARTH nor the Fields, nor the high est part of the Dust of the World. 27 When he prepared the HEAVENS, I was there; when he fet a Compass upon the Face of the Depth. 28 When he established the Clouds above: when he strengthened the Fountains of the Deep: 29 When he gave to the Sea his Decree, that the Waters should not pafs his Commandment: when he appointed the Foundations of the Earth. 30 Then I was by him, as one brought up with him; and I was daily his DELIGHT; rejoycing always before him. 31 Rejoycing in the habitable part of his Earth, and my Delights were with the Sons of MEN. 32 Now, therefore, hearken unto me, O ye CHILDREN, for blessed are they that keep my ways. 33 Hear Instruction and be wife, refuse it not. 34 Bleffed is the Man that heareth me, watching daily at my Gates; waiting at the Posts of my Doors. 35 For whoso findeth me, findeth LIFE, and shall obtain Favour of the LORD. 36 But he that finneth against me wrongeth his own Sour: All they that hate me love DEATH. C And God faid, Let there be Light; and there was Light. b Pfal. xxxiii. 6 By the WORD of the LORD were the Heavens made, and all the Host of them by the Breath of his Mouth. 7 He gathered the Waters of the Sea together, as an Heap, he layeth up the Depth in Store-houses. 8 Let all the Earth fear the Lord; let all the Inhabitants of the World stand in awe of Him. 2 Cor. iv. 6 ForGod who command ed the LIGHT to shine out of Darkness, hath thined in our Hearts, to give the LIGHT Of the Knowledge of the GLORY of God, in the Face of JESUS CHRIST. 4 And God faw the Light, that it was good; and God divided the Light from the Darkness. 5 And God called the Light Day, and the Darkness he called Night; and the Evening and the Morning were the first Day. 6 And God said, Let there be a Firmament in the midst of the Waters, and let it divide the Waters from the Wa ters. 7 d And God made the Firmament, and divided the Waters which were under the Firmament, from the Waters which were above the Firmament: and it was fo. & Pfal. cxlviii. 4 Praise him, ye Heaven of Heavens, and ye Waters that be above the Heavens. s Let them praise the Name of the LORD; for he commanded and they were created. 6 He hath also stablished them for ever and ever he hath made a Decree which shall not pass. 8 And GOD called the Firmament Heaven: and the Evening and the Morning were the fecond Day. 9 And God faid, Let the Waters under the Heaven be gathered together unto one Place, and let the dry Land appear: and it was so. 10 And God called the dry Land Earth, and the gathering together of the Waters called he Seas: and God faw that it was good. 11 And God said, Let the Earth bring forth Grass, the Herb yielding Seed, and the Fruit-tree yielding Fruit after his kind, whose Seed is in itfelf, upon the Earth: and it was fo. 12 And the Earth brought forth Grafs, and Herb yielding Seed after his kind, and the Tree yielding Fruit, whose Seed was in itself after his kind and God saw that it was good. 13 And the Evening and the Morning were the third Day. 14 f And God faid, Let there be Lights in the Firmament of the Heaven, to di * Job xxvi. to He hath compassed the Waters with Bounds, until the Day and Night come to an End. Pfal. civ. 1 O LORD my God, thou art very great, thou art clothed with Honour and Majesty. 2 Who coverest thyself with Light, as with a Garment: who stretcheft out the Heavens like a Curtain. 3 Who layeth the Beams of his Chambers in the Waters, who maketh the Clouds his Chariot, who walketh upon the Wings of the Wind. 5 Who laid the Foundations of the Earth, that it should not be removed for ever. 6 Thou coverest it with the Deep, as with a Garment: the Waters flood above the Mountains. 7 At thy Rebuke they filed: at thy Thunder they hasted away. 8 They go up by the Mountains : they go down by the Valleys unto the Place which thou hast founded for them 9 Thou hast set a Bound that they may not pats over: that they turn not again to cover the Earth. Jer. v. 22 Fear ye not me, faith the LORD: will ye not TREMBLE at my Presence, who have placed the Sand for the Bound of the Sea, by a perpetual Decree that it cannot pass it; and though the Waves thereof tols themselves, yet can they not prevail; though they roar, yet can they not pass over it. * Pfal. xix. 1.
