10 Even there doth Thy hand lead me,

Yea, Thy right hand holdeth me!

11 If I say: Surely the darkness will shroud me!
Then doth the night become day, around me!
12 Yea, the darkness hideth not from Thee,
But the night shineth as the day!

To Thee, the darkness and the light are both alike!

13 Truly, Thou hast formed my reins;

THOU hast clothed me, in the womb of my mother.

14 I will praise Thee,

For I am fearfully and wonderfully made!

Wonderful are Thy works!

Yea, my soul knoweth it full well!

15 My substance was not hidden from Thee, When I was made, in secret

When I was curiously wrought, beneath the earth. 16 THINE eyes beheld my yet unformed substance; And in Thy book, were all my members written, In the days, when they were formed,

And ere yet there was one of them!

17 How precious unto me are Thy counsels, O God! How great is the sum of them!

18 Shall I recount them?

They are more in number than the sand!
When I awake, I am still with Thee!

18 I am still with Thee-i. e. On each succeeding morning, I find an ample subject for my meditations in Thy goodness and power. Compare Ps. xvii. 15. Note 5.

19 O that Thou wouldest slay the wicked, O God! Depart from me, ye blood-thirsty men!

20 Who adjure Thee for wicked purposes―

Who swear falsely by Thy cities.

21 Do I not hate those, who hate Thee, O JEHOVAH?

And am I not grieved at those, who rise up against Thee? 22 With perfect hatred do I hate them;

They are accounted by me as enemies.

23 Search me, O God! and know my heart,

Prove me, and know my thoughts.

Yea, see if there be any idolatrous way in me,

And guide me in the ancient way.

1 RESCUE me, O JEHOVAH! from wicked men,

Preserve me from men of violence!

2 Who devise evil in their heart

Who, daily, stir up war.

3 They sharpen their tongue, as a serpent; The poison of asps is under their lips.

4 Guard me, O JEHOVAH! from the hands of the wicked, Preserve me from men of violence!

Who devise how to overthrow my feet.

honour due to Him, and to worship false gods. "They have burned incense to vanity, and they have caused them to stumble in their ways from the ancient paths, to walk in paths, in a way not cast up." Jer. xviii. 15.

23 the ancient way-"Thus saith the LORD, Stand ye in the ways, and see, and ask for the old paths, where is the good way, and walk therein, and ye shall find rest for your souls." Jer. vi. 16.

5 The proud hide snares and cords, for me, They spread a net, by the side of my path; They lay toils for me.

6 I say unto JEHOVAH: THOU art my God!
Hear, O JEHOVAH! the voice of my supplication.
7 JEHOVAH-LORD is the strength of my salvation;
THOU Coverest my head, in the day of battle.

8 Grant not, O JEHOVAH! the desires of the wicked; Let not their devices prevail, lest they be lifted up. 9 May the poison of those, who beset me

May the mischief of their lips overwhelm them! 10 May burning coals be thrown down upon them! May they be cast into the fire

Into whirlpools, whence they cannot rise!

11 Let not the slanderer be established in the land;
Let wickedness hunt the violent man, to his overthrow.

12 I know that JEHOVAH will maintain

The cause of the afflicted-the right of the needy.

13 Truly, the righteous shall sing praise unto Thy Name; The upright shall dwell in Thy presence.

1 O JEHOVAH! I call upon Thee, hasten unto me;
Hear my voice, when I call upon Thee.

2 My prayer is set before Thee, as the incense-
The lifting up of my hands, as the evening oblation.
3 O JEHOVAH! place a watch upon my mouth;
Set a guard over the door of my lips.

4 Let not my heart incline to any evil thing-
To commit acts of wickedness,

With the men, who work iniquity;
Nor let me feed upon their dainties.
5 Let the righteous man smite me,
It will be kindness;

Yea, let him reprove me,

It will be oil to my head.

My head will not shrink from it,

Though it be done again.

My prayer is against their acts of wickedness.

6 "Their rulers shall be hurled, over the sides of the rock, "And men shall hearken to My words, for they are sweet. 7 "Their bones shall be scattered, at the mouth of the grave, "As when one heweth, and cleaveth wood, upon the ground."

2 incense-i. e. as regularly as the incense is presented, morning and evening. "Aaron shall burn thereon sweet incense every morning; when he dresseth the lamps, he shall burn incense upon it. 8 Truly, mine eyes are upon Thee, O JEHOVAH-LORD!

With Thee do I take refuge, leave me not defenceless. 9 Guard me from the snare, which they have laid for me, And from the toils of the workers of iniquity.

10 Let the wicked, all together, fall into their own nets; Let me ever pass over them!

1 WITH my voice, I cry unto JEHOVAH;

With my voice, unto JEHOVAH do I make my supplication.

2 I pour out before Him my complaint;

I declare before Him my distress,

3 When my spirit within me is faint.

But as for Thee, Thou knowest my path!

In the way, wherein I walk,

Have they hidden a snare for me.

4 Look at my right hand, and behold!
For there is none, who will know me;
No place of safety is left to me,
There is none, who careth for me.

5 I cry unto Thee, O JEHOVAH !

I say: THOU art my refuge

My portion, in the land of the living!

6 Attend unto my cry,

For I am brought very low.
Deliver me from my pursuers,
For they are too strong for me.

10 pass-i.e. in safety.
